An easy way for BGE residential electric customers to help reduce energy use during days of the year when temperatures are extreme and get $50 off a new smart thermostat.
What is Connected RewardsSM?
When weather temperatures are extreme, the demand for electricity is especially high. This can put a strain on the electric grid. To help prevent possible power interruptions on these days and to keep the cost of energy low, BGE may activate the Connected Rewards program.
By joining Connected Rewards, you can help reduce energy use during days when the temperature is extreme. There is no effort required during these events and BGE will automatically adjust your thermostat temperature by no more than four degrees to help lower energy demand during peak hours.
Connected Rewards is free to join, and in exchange for enrolling, you’ll get $50! And every year you participate, you will also receive a $50 annual Visa e-gift card for each thermostat enrolled in the program.

If you sign up for Connected Rewards when you buy a smart thermostat on the BGE Marketplace, you’ll get an instant $50 off your purchase as an enrollment bonus. Combine this with other potential instant rebates, and you could get a total of up to $125 off!
Already have a smart thermostat? You still get your $50 for enrolling in the program.
Automated smart thermostat adjustments — but you retain control
Connected Rewards automatically adjusts your smart thermostat for you around Adjustment Event days. However, this doesn’t mean you lose control of your settings: While BGE encourages participation in all events to prevent service interruptions, participants may opt out at any time.

By participating in the program, you’ll help to reduce the need for additional power plants, keep down the overall cost of electricity, and ease the burden on Maryland’s electricity delivery system as our state’s population continues to grow.
How it works
Enroll your smart thermostat, then check your eligibility
Enroll your smart thermostat in the Connected Rewards program, then check your BGE account eligibility for your enrollment bonus and instant rebates.
Don’t have a smart thermostat? No problem! You can purchase your smart thermostat here. If your BGE account is eligible, your discounts will be automatically applied to your cart. Just go through the checkout process to sign up and save!
Perform quick-and-easy installation
Once your smart thermostat is installed and connected to Wi-Fi, your enrollment will be complete, and your smart thermostat will immediately begin analyzing your routine and preferred settings.
Start saving energy
When experiencing extreme weather and energy demand is at its highest, the Connected Rewards program will be activated and an Adjustment Event will be scheduled to help lower energy demand. During the adjustment event, your smart thermostat temperature will be modified by no more than four degrees to help reduce energy demand during peak hours.
Eligibility requirements
- Be an active BGE residential electric customer
- Install the smart thermostat in your household and use it to control your central A/C
- Keep the smart thermostat connected to an active Wi-Fi network
- Have eligible cooling equipment installed in your home
- Not be enrolled in another demand response program (i.e. PeakRewards) on the same A/C compressor
