Save with these tips
Stay comfy and save energy.
During the winter months, your bill may reflect more energy usage due to the extreme temperatures outside. Making small changes to your energy use this season can help you lower your energy use and costs. BGE puts you in control of your energy with easy tools and programs that help you stay on track and save big.

Maintain Your Heating System
Did you know that heating your home is the highest energy user? Scheduling a service check can help to ensure your heating system is ready for the winter season. To schedule your service check please visit the HVAC tune up site here.

Replace Air Filters Regularly
Filters that become dirty and clogged can significantly reduce efficiency in your heating and cooling system. We recommend replacing your air filters every 30-90 days based on the type and efficiency of your filter. Need new air filters? Shop Now.

Use My Account Online Tools
Setting up tools like Home Energy Analysis and High Usage Alerts can help to ensure you are making any necessary changes needed to make your home more efficient and stay on top of your energy use.

Utilize the Sun
Opening curtains during the day will allow sunlight to naturally heat your home. Be sure to close your curtains as the sun sets to help retain the heat from the day.

Reduce Lighting Usage
Be sure to turn off unnecessary lights, utilize natural light during the day, and use LEDs which can save you around $80 over the lifetime of each lightbulb.

Adjust Your Thermostat Settings
If your health permits, try to keep your thermostat set to 68°. For each degree lower than 68° you could save up to 5% on heating costs.
Have an ecobee?
Here are three tips to help your thermostat run efficiently this winter
- Threshold Settings: Heat pumps with auxiliary heat can be configured to operate for comfort or energy savings.
- Comfort Settings: During the colder months, BGE recommends that you schedule your thermostat to the following winter heat set points. Sleep – 66°, Home – 68°, Away – 64°
- Alerts: Alerts can be set for runtime, outdoor temperature, low temperature, and high temperature. These can help to ensure you are aware of the changes to your thermostat
